SECTION 06650 - SOLID SURFACING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

1. ACRYSTONE® SOLID SURFACE 1/8" (3MM): Homogenous sheet material composed of acrylic resins, fire- retardant filler materials, and coloring agents.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1. Comply with Section 01330, unless otherwise indicated.

2. Product Data:

1. Detailed specification of construction and fabrication.

2. Manufacturer's installation instructions.

3. Manufacturer's detailed recommendations for handling, storage, installation, protection, and maintenance.

3. Shop Drawings: Installation details including location and layout of each type of fabrication and accessory.

4. Samples: Full range of colors and patterns.

5. Contract Closeout Submittals: Comply with Section 01700.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1. Deliver fabrications appropriately wrapped in protective materials.

2. Protect fabrications from damage.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

1. Maintain relative humidity planned for building occupants and an ambient temperature between 65 and 75_F° for 48 hours prior to and during installation. After installation, maintain relative humidity and ambient temperature planned for building occupants.

1.7 WARRANTY

1. Furnish manufacturer’s limited 1year warranty.

2.3 FABRICATION

1. Fabrication to be performed by a qualified solid surface fabricator/installer.

2. Fabricate components in shop to greatest extent practical to size and shape indicated, in accordance with approved shop drawing.

3. ACRYSTONE SOLID SURFACE 1/8" (3MM) Fabrication Manuals (T-03 – T-08).

4. Form joints between components using standard joint adhesive. Provide holes and cutouts for plumbing and bath accessories as indicated on shop drawings.

5. Rout and finish component edges to a smooth, uniform finish. Rout all cutouts then sand all edges smooth. Repair or reject defective or inaccurate work.

6. Finish: Surfaces shall have a uniform finish.

1. Matte: Standard finish for high traffic areas, requires the least amount of maintenance.

2. Satin: Standard finish for darker may require additional maintenance.

3. Semi-gloss: Higher sheen with greater reflectance, suggested for lower traffic areas, requires increased maintenance

4. Gloss: Maximum sheen and reflectance, recommended for light traffic areas or vertical applications.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

1. Examine substrates to receive solid surfacing. Identify conditions detrimental to proper or timely installation. Do not commence installation until conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

1. Precondition ACRYSTONE SOLID SURFACE 1/8" (3MM) in accordance with manufacturer’s printed installation instructions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

1. Install components plumb and level, in accordance with approved shop drawings, project installation details and manufacturer’s printed instructions.

2. Form joints using approved adhesive.

3. Provide backsplashes and end splashes as indicated on the drawings. Adhere to countertops using manufacturer’s recommended silicone sealant.

4. Remove excessive adhesive and sealants. Components shall be clean on Date of Substantial Completion.

3.4 PROTECTION

1. Protect surfaces from damage until Date of Substantial Completion. Repair or replace damaged components that cannot be repaired to architect’s satisfaction.

2. Fabricator/Installer to provide the ACRYSTONE SOLID SURFACE 1/8" (3MM) Care and Maintenance Card, review maintenance procedures and the Aristech Acrylics LLC warranty with the head of maintenance upon completion of project.

3.5 SCHEDULE

SPEC NOTE: List fabricated or manufactured components here by drawing symbol identifier, product number, color, pattern, etc. Coordinate with drawings. Do not duplicate drawing information here.
