Acrylic sheet, or polymethyl methacrylate, is noted for its excellent optical properties and resistance to sunlight, weather and most chemicals. A tough rigid thermoplastic was first used in aircraft canopies and windshields during World War II.

Since then, many new applications have been developed and acrylic sheet is now one of the most widely used specialty plastics available.
